Lauren Staton and Lisa Martin (played by Faye Dunaway and Claudia Christian) have committed the murder of their unfaithful lover Nick Franco, with Lauren as the one who pulled the trigger. To make it appear as a burglary in Franco's apartment, the duo has executed their plan meticulously, ensuring they both have solid alibis. Lt. Columbo, who finds himself attracted to the gorgeous Lauren. She cleverly exploits his feelings by showering him with gifts and even giving him kisses. However, Columbo soon discovers irregularities in the physical evidence, and he becomes convinced that Lauren is involved in Franco's death. Despite this, he knows that a confession is the only way to arrest her.
