In Ransom for a dead man, Leslie Williams (played by Lee Grant), an exceptional tort attorney, finds herself uninterested in her husband, a highly esteemed member of the state supreme court. Despite leveraging his prominent reputation to advance her own career, she becomes determined to obtain her freedom by killing him. Leslie devises a plan to stage his kidnapping and demand a ransom, only to pay it to herself once his lifeless body is discovered. Despite managing to deceive the FBI, Lt. Columbo uncovers the truth with the help of Leslie's vindictive stepdaughter.
Lee Grant is an American actress and director who has had a long and distinguished career in film, television, and theater. She was born on October 31, 1925, in New York City. Grant began her acting career in the 1950s and quickly gained recognition for her talent. She appeared in numerous films, including "Detective Story," "In the Heat of the Night," and "Shampoo," for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Grant also had a prolific career in television, appearing in shows such as "Peyton Place," "The Simpsons," and "Law & Order: SVU." In addition to her acting career, Grant also became a director, making her directorial debut with the film "Tell Me a Riddle" in 1980. She has also directed numerous documentaries and TV movies.
